About Us

We are three friends that met in grad school. We are Canadians. All three of us have an (unhealthy) interest in British culture. We would self-identify as Anglophiles (I like this term ... though find it sounds rather indecent). We named our blog after Nancy Mitford's classic work on posh people frolicking on country estates. Thought the "Cold Climate" bit was especially apt as it used to (before global warming) snow 8/ 12 months in Canada. Lucky/ strange that we found one another and extremely fortunate (have you seen who goes to grad school?) indeed that we can tolerate (dare I say, enjoy?) one another's company outside of the confines of institutional collegiality. Probably not so "strange" considering that we all studied various aspects of a similar period of history in the UK: three kooky peas in a pod.

Over the years, continents and oceans have separated us. Yet, we remain bonded by our irrational love of British literature, television (especially panel shows ... does the BBC even commission any other format of telly?), music, politics (full disclosure: we are divided on the Boris Johnson factor ... and one of us might have a crush on George Osborne), the royals (important to note that we loved the royals before Kate cast her magical spell on the world (with her glossy chestnut locks and high street frocks). She just makes it a less painful/ shameful activity), architecture, art ...

This blog will feature some of our heated/lively correspondence on a variety of interesting matters.
